Annahar

One of the oldest Lebanese daily political newspapers, Annahar was founded by Ambassador Gebran Tueni. Its first issue came out on August 4, 1933, and Tueni’s son Ghassan joined the newsroom in 1948 till 1999. Following his father’s footsteps, he became one of the most prominent journalists in Lebanon, even assuming diplomatic, parliamentary, and ministerial posts. Ghassan’s son, Gebran, also followed this path until he was assassinated in a car bomb on December 12 2005, after he was elected a Member of Parliament for Beirut. Six months earlier, Annahar journalist Samir Kassir was assassinated in similar circumstances on June 2, 2005.

In 2009, the newspaper suffered a financial crisis and dismissed over 50 employees. The same situation occurred again in 2016 and some of those who were let go filed complaints against the newspaper at the Ministry of Labor. In January 2009, Annahar launched its Web TV and in June 2013, the daily launched a new print and an online version. Former MP and Gebran’s daughter Nayla Tueni is the General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper. Ghassan Hajjar is the Director of Publication.

Annahar covers local and international news, health, beauty, technology, women, science, arts, society, entertainment, and social issues.
