Al Waleed Bin Talal

Al Waleed Bin Talal

A member of the Saudi royal family, Prince Al Walid Bin Talal is the cousin of Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. Al Walid Bin Talal is considered to be one of the most influential people in the world. A well-known businessman qualified as the “Arabian Warren Buffett” by Time Magazine, he is the founder, CEO and main owner of the Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), based in Saudi Arabia. KHC is one of the world’s premier international investment companies with holdings in some of the world’s best-known companies and brands including Time Warner, Samba, Citigroup, Pepsi, Walt Disney, and Four Seasons. Furthermore, KHC is involved in the media (the statellite Cairo-based LBC channel, after being involved in the Lebanon-based LBCI, as well as the Rotana entertainment channels and production houses), airlines (Flynas) and construction.

Walid Bin Talal also holds the Lebanese nationality, as the grandson of the first Prime Minister of independent Lebanon Riyad Solh. Kingdom Holding is represented in Lebanon by Al-Waleed Bin Talal's mother, cousin, and aunt, former Minister of Industry (2004 and 2005) Leila Solh. She is also the President of Al-Waleed Bin Talal's Humanitarian Foundation, Alwaleed Philanthropies charity, one of the main donor for several health and education institutions across Lebanon. The Lebanese branch of Kingdom Holding is also represented in the Board of Administrators of Annahar newspaper.

As of early 2015, it was estimated that his net worth was around $22.8 billion. In 2017, as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman turned Riyadh’s Ritz-Carlton hotel into a five-star jail for some of the nation’s most prominent citizens in what he called an anti-corruption sweep, Prince Al Waleed bin Talal was detained there for more than two months and was released in January 2018. As for his recent business ventures: he is currently X's second largest shareholder and has invested around 500 million dollars in Russian firms following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
