The late minister Michel Eddé was the CEO of the daily newspaper L’Orient Le Jour. Known to be a strong advocate of the Francophonie, he has served in several ministries - more specifically Information and Culture - from 1966 to 1998. Michel was also the President of the Maronite Foundation, in which other media owning families are represented (Kallasi, Boustani, Frem, among others). Michel’s son, Salim, is the co-founder of the multinational financial software company Murex. Michel’s daughter, Isabelle, is married to Philippe Helou, son of former MP Pierre Helou and brother of former MP Henri Hélou. Philippe and Isabelle’s sons, Michel and Selim, both serve on the board of L’Orient-Le Jour, and Michel was the newspaper’s Executive Director, where he led the digital transformation, until his resignation in 2022 as he ran for office and took the leadership of the National Bloc party.
